I honestly think that some "science" journalists need to retake a biology 101 class. Fructose and Glucose can be found in every common plant food.

@jordyd my friend who speaks Spanish as a first language did that with “Palm Olive” soap once...

@jordyd Are they 30+ years older or do they hold some sort of position of authority? If not, I’d say tú, but you can always start with usted and see how they respond! Things are rather relaxed here at the border, so ymmv in other regions.

@jordyd To be fair, the vast majority of Spanish speakers don’t need it, either.

Hello everyone who is new to Mastodon! Make sure you try and find some folks to follow who have been here for a long time. Don't make the mistake of just following folks joining right now or those you know from other places. Because many of these will leave soon, making you think this place is dead when in reality it's buzzing with activity. I've seen it happen too often with new social services and sites.

Hello World! This is my post. I'm a senior CS student from Virginia and am somewhat new to mastadon (although I tried it a few years ago.) I've been pretty impressed with both the community and the software and am really excited about it. I'm part of the robotics club at Liberty University and have built a few of my own robots at home as well. This past year or so has been full of all kinds of new experiences for me and I'm super excited to see where it goes.

A good tag to use if you need help on Mastodon is #needhelp

There are people who have that tag as something they follow who will do their best to answer Mastodon help questions!

@ExilianOfficial Hi there! I mostly stick with python, R and bash scripting, since that’s the standard for bioinformatics. I regularly have to remind myself that frankencoding is legit coding, though. 😆

@jordyd Also helpful to get out of unpaid labor! “Sorry, I don’t have any arms” is one I’d love to use more often.

@StarGays Hi Luna, and welcome! Maybe it’ll be a bit simplistic for you, but I’ve always enjoyed codecademy, and they added sql. 😁

@milo I’m curious, why is Tootdon your favorite app so far? I’m on an iPad, too!

@milo No worries at all! I field all sorts of cool questions like that one in non-majors bio, my favorite course. Not gonna lie, I can’t really pick between genetics and evolution as my favorites. I regularly check out various social media outlets for science news, which I tell myself is to keep my classes current. 😉

@milo Hi, and thanks! I’ve never worked with plants, so it’s a bit outside my expertise. That being said, plant communication and biosemiotics are generating a lot more interest than they used to!
