I would love to see more regional mastodon instances being hosted. An Austin TX instance, while just being useful to me and my fellow Austinites, might garner some attention during SXSW... unfortunate we missed that...

This train of thought leads to more questions about the role of advertising for mastodon. Metcalfe's law is a compelling mistress.
Now that octodon.social is one of the larger instances, I think its time we asked ourselves: What the hell is an octodon? All the other hip instances have unique logos... why not us?

Might be analogous to evolution of small populations versus large populations -- clusters of finches in small groups changed features more over generations versus large populations of finches.
Maybe this is the real sweet spot -- small groups and large groups in the federation coexist, and the federation walls can keep the larger and smaller carnivores at bay.

I want a bot that uses NLP to determine what percentage of the toots it sees are meta toots about mastodon itself...

My hypothesis: a fairly large portion of #metadon toots. Maybe almost as large as the subset of toots in the format "@personA @personB :pineapple:"
so thinking about it, i actually want to see instances of services like mastodon that charge for membership, provide certain rough guarantees about level of sysadmin support (and moderation!), and chip in on paying for core services dev.

It is therefore very good practice to follow as many interesting people from other instances as possible. We are the ropes binding this distributed system together.

I think I need to send 'do not track requests' with my toots now.
So many follow bots. They are multiplying every hour. Part of me feels like this is the start of sky net. Soon, mastodon will just be a collection of bots #retooting each other with the occasional human thrown in.
