You know it is far to late when frenchmen start filling up your Home feed again.

tfy you spend hours debugging your summoning circle only to discover one of the runes was in lower case when it should have been upper case

@NthTensor Actually planning on doing exactly this. Know the owner of atx.link, so can put it on a subdomain there. the.atx.link maybe? :)

Feel free to loop in other Austinites on that bit (e.g. @benhamill

I would love to see more regional mastodon instances being hosted. An Austin TX instance, while just being useful to me and my fellow Austinites, might garner some attention during SXSW... unfortunate we missed that...

--
This train of thought leads to more questions about the role of advertising for mastodon. Metcalfe's law is a compelling mistress.

@followbot

:spy:

(I think the feds are following me)

Now that octodon.social is one of the larger instances, I think its time we asked ourselves: What the hell is an octodon? All the other hip instances have unique logos... why not us?

--
I vote for a mastodon with 8 trunks.
Anyone else? No?

Just me then...

Please @dont run for president of mastodon. We need these awoo'in crooks rounded up!

@Elucidating @bodil

Might be analogous to evolution of small populations versus large populations -- clusters of finches in small groups changed features more over generations versus large populations of finches.

Maybe this is the real sweet spot -- small groups and large groups in the federation coexist, and the federation walls can keep the larger and smaller carnivores at bay.

Maybe I'm waxing poetic, tho. I'm pretty tired. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I want a bot that uses NLP to determine what percentage of the toots it sees are meta toots about mastodon itself...

--
My hypothesis: a fairly large portion of toots. Maybe almost as large as the subset of toots in the format "@personA @personB :pineapple:"

so thinking about it, i actually want to see instances of services like mastodon that charge for membership, provide certain rough guarantees about level of sysadmin support (and moderation!), and chip in on paying for core services dev.

diversity of tactics, you know?

Tooting this again because of the unceasing flood of new users:

For those who dont know, the federated timeline displays all the activity from all the people on other instances who are followed by people on your instance.

--
It is therefore very good practice to follow as many interesting people from other instances as possible. We are the ropes binding this distributed system together.

Thinking about setting up a custom instance with a streamlined bot api. No humans allowed.

retoot.io?

A pride of lions.
A murder of crows.
A federation of nerds.

About wow much would: (A) Having a privately hosted instance with only me and a federation-follow-bot as members and (B) Maintaining a network of bots in other instances that follow me, thus federating my toots, totally defeat the purpose of the federation?

--
I have a terrible feeling that the answer is "very much"... and that I am going to try this anyway...

Test Toot for science.

--
Looking into how my toots show up in other instances.

At this point we are going to start to need individual robots.txt toots.

--
I think I need to send 'do not track requests' with my toots now.

So many follow bots. They are multiplying every hour. Part of me feels like this is the start of sky net. Soon, mastodon will just be a collection of bots each other with the occasional human thrown in.

--
Someone should make a list of all the bots to follow. Call it 'The Turing Registry'.

There can be no excuse for not coining the terms 'retooted' and 'retooting' for mastodon.

No excuse. None.
