@Elizafox AH, YOU THINK CAPS ARE YOUR ALLY. YOU MEARLY ADOPTED THE CAPS. I WAS BORN IN IT, MOLDED BY IT. I DIDNT SEE LOWER CASE LETTERS UNTILL I WAS ALREADY A MAN, BY THEN IT WAS NOTHING TO ME BUT SQUIGGLY.

@benhamill That wont cover all of it. I am still working through the related reading. github.com/tootsuite/documenta

If I am right, and I am likely not, salmon handles the actual updating of the other servers.

@benhamill The best advice I can give is to comb trough related issues on github, or just read the protocol specification. ostatus.github.io/spec/OStatus

Someone on irc might be able to help... irc.freenode.net#mastodon

Can someone point me to a good technical 101 for Mastodon? Or OStatus? Trying to understand: When I make a post, how does another instance find out about it to show to my followers there or the federated timeline?

@Elizafox And 75% of all conversation on the fediverse is suddenly illegal.

Come on, thats what social media is for! A fair amount of bird-site is still just for complaining about bird-site

@dboyfajardo Aren't you actually 46.15% Diego and 53.85% Fajardo?

@paulsheprow @sargoth Thats the thing... I was just thinking flying the city for a bit...

Space is different. Maybe, if we broke up your city into smaller parts, we could fly them up one at at time and reconnect them...

Thats 173185 people...
Average mass of 70.8 kg...
SpaceX costs $2,719/kg...

It would only cost about 190,330$ per person. Thats possible... People dont nee houses in space.

@brunodias I think you are good now.

You are being followed by approximately .08% of all registered mastodon users.

Congratulations 🎉

@sargoth Your local city would have to be very aerodynamic... and very dense, I think...

Difficult, but possible.

@jason The wrong man. The third man. Twelve angry men.

Old film titles did love starting with the litter T and ending with "man", didn't they.

@acw HOW DO WE HAVE SELF DRIVING CARS BUT NOT << An account migration system for mastodon.

@Elizafox I support this.

I had a few good conversations with one of the admins about this very situation (blocking an entire instance because of a subset of members), but in the end, I think this is for the best.

The instance ban a good incentive for admins to implement effective abuse policies. Like embargo. But less like capitalism (I know you love to hate on capitalism).

Setting up a mastodon development environment.

It has been SO LONG since I used ruby. This should be... interesting...

@Elizafox As a very strange texan and an ex-San Franciscan, I approve of this idea.

All the world is a democracy. Vote with your location. Mastodon too.

@LensaMoon I agree.

However, I think that this problem is systematic of the current implementation of the federation. I.E. instances are discrete entry points.

To have multiple accounts connected, one needs a client that is also not tied to a specific instance.

There are a few desktop clients being developed. Intend to suggest supporting multiple accounts.
