The author of this article treats Mastodon like it’s another social startup hellbent on killing Twitter. He doesn’t get it.

I’m not saying Mastodon will survive, but its users will drive it, like Twitter’s early users made it what it is, much to Twitter’s chagrin.

And, really, that’s what made early Twitter so special—its users experimented & had a hand in shaping the platform, from hash tags to apps.

@NthTensor There is no company behind Mastodon, no single instance. If one person or group makes the same bad choices, another person or group can run their own instance and make different choices. The difference is the power of the community to control its destiny.

I guess we should embrace forking and fragmentation.
