@troubleMoney @gntzl Something to consider: A language filter might encourage multilingual people to post in multiple languages. For example, my native language is German, but I never post in German because I don't want to discourage non-German speaking people from following me. An adjustable language filter for our home timelines might solve this problem.
ScienceMarchDC and decolonization in academia
If anyone is coming into DC for the #sciencemarch this Saturday, I’m gonna try to put together a small gathering and facilitate a conversation for folks who want to seriously think about putting together a new movement to decolonize academia. http://twitter.com/thebestsophist/status/852566447788367872
@yair I saw you followed me and I admit I am curious...
What language are most of your toots in? I feel bad for not being able to recognize it on sight. Hopefully you will accommodate my American ignorance.
BY THE WAY
DRIVERS UNDER THE INFLUENCE HAVE ALMOST KILLED ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS
SOMETIMES AS A PEDESTRIAN
SOMETIMES AS A PASSENGER (ONCE IN THE CAR WITH THE DRUNK DRIVER EVEN)
SOMETIMES WHEN I WAS DRIVING
YOU ARE A FUCKING SHITHEAD IF YOU DRIVE UNDER THE INFLUENCE AND GO FUCK YOURSELF IF YOU DO THAT.
I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR HABIT. WE ALL HAVE DARK NECESSITIES.
I DON'T CARE ABOUT HAVING FUN. I DRINK SOMETIMES TOO.
BUT I NEVER DRINK ANYTHING AND DRIVE. EVER.
@firstname.lastname@example.org You are starting to creep me out...
My name is miles. I also do the hole dashes-to-seperate-ideas thing and you are the only other person I have seen use it. Also a big fan of the EFF... and use signal... and have my GPG key signature in my profile...
You dont... live in texas do you? No long lost children? No clones?
Seriously, Its uncanny. Abstract profile pic and everything...
So I think it's the PubSubHubbub portion that does what I'm looking for.
Current understanding: I make a post & my instance pushes that post to each instance where someone follows me.
Which means if some single-user instance's user follows me, but no one on my instance (including me) follows them, then my instance is "aware" of theirs, but not in a way that their posts would show up on our federated timeline.
Anybody poke holes in that?
Something on safe spaces
To put it better from elsewhere in the thread:
Basically, everyone discriminates against something.
We discriminate against most criminals in society, especially those who harm others.
Likewise people who believe in the ostracism of others deserve discrimination.
They have the right to discriminate others but society has a right to discriminate against them too. Works both ways, you see.
It's like you can discriminate against someone who advocates abuse.
Woot! Something I'm sure we all have been waiting for a long time! // Root - A bank account for developers https://root.co.za/
@Elizafox as a person working with data intelligence, machine learning and deep learning, I can say that we are just dealing with the tip of the iceberg. As more and more architectures and tools get commoditized, we see them applied to many problems that were considered unsolvable before and I can see many many fields where this change has just began. For instance I'm working on one of the many greenfields opened in the recent years and we just struck the crust
Mastodon politics, safe spaces, and breaking the federation for fun and profit.
