Snapchat too was conceptually fascinating. At a moment in time when 'content' - be it someone's life's work, a cute animal picture, disastrous world events, memes - is all by-and-large equally easy to consume, dismiss, and forget, along came ephemeral content that *demanded* attention lest it be Gone Forever, unlike...everything else on the internet. That was (and is) powerful. Now soured by feature creep, fatigue, and poor UI/UX choices.
