Like, if someone says, "Please don't step on my toes," it's ridiculous to respond with, "fuck you pay me."
Here's my #TransformTech talk, which discusses Mastodon as an example of "diversity-friendly software", focusing on anti-harassment and the involvement of furries and LGTBQ+ people early in the process.
[Of course, Mastodon has its diversity challenges as well - and I certainly am not saying to ignore those!]
Oh also PSA it is mentioned in release notes but you can put your CSS customizations into app/assets/stylesheets/custom.scss now and that file won't be overwritten by any future updates
@HerraBRE I'm into that in a serious way! It boils down to talking. Let me explain: Working on this as a passion project and small side hustle for a couple of years now. My findings: face-to-face communication as much as possible, co ed classes where lead instructor takes a definite stance on inclusivity, frank discussions of the workplace and their experiences in school, role-playing situations intermingled with hard content all == helpful.

Agreed on not all social problems have technical solutions. The idea that this isn't necessarily linear is very interesting from a social standpoint: I'd love to see what happens, or does not happen, with the age-old bandwagon here.
.@jalefkowit I think the user interface can help by encouraging or discouraging certain things - this is an interesting area for research and innovation.
But at the end of the day it's a social problem and not all social problems have technical solutions. Maybe we collectively need to learn to behave better.
