Should you use mastodon for sensitive info? Hell no! At least, not unless you're running your own instance, and you know what you're doing.
But you also shouldn't use facebook or twitter for sensitive info! You don't control those platforms either.
Here's a thing that makes Mastodon instances work less well than they could...
when you visit an instance, all the front pages look the same.
"About this instance" is a TINY little link under the sign-up form. This is crazy.
Instances should LEAD with a community description, not bury it.
That's like a newsgroup leading with the OS it used to run the newsgroup rather than saying: "This is a Kenny G community"
"Marie-o" lady just told me I should try using "google" (chrome) instead of "the internet" (IE) because it's faster and then sent me a link to the websites she was on so I could have the 'google version'
I honestly think having more Black People/PoC/LGBT people working on the Mastodon code would be good. Really any marginalized group.
Given that harassment is rampant everywhere, we would have good insights that a cishet allo white guy might not tbh

PSA: If you are in the web view of a remote instance of some user or toot, you cannot directly reply/boost/fav.
But you can copypaste the URL into your local Mastodon server's "Search" field, then it allows you to interact!

The design purpose of weapon degradation in Breath of the Wild is to let you have cool weapons without disrupting long-term balance or character growth. You can sneak into Hyrule Castle in the first hour and grab end-game weapons. Games never let you do that sort of thing, but BoTW can because it's just a short term boost.
It also fixes the dumb JRPG problem where the game won't let you grab the cool sword off a dead enemy because the game has *a plan* for your weapon upgrade curve.
calling it a toot was an ingenious PR move. The constant conversation that alone has driven across the user base in the past week is keeping tooters active

My advice to new mastodon servers: get help from people with experience moderating other communities. It's the best predictor of survival

What drives me mad is knowing everything I'd ever want to write is already finished and hiding in the library of babel.
I can admit I've looked in there for a lot longer than registers as healthy.
The real value add of Mastodon is giving everyone an excuse to finally put something on all the weird domains they've been squatting
