Here's why I asked: Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 is a remake of Super Mario Bros. 3 for the Game Boy Advance. It included World-e, a world where you could access levels that you unlocked with e-Cards.
The service got discontinued in the US shortly after the release of the game, so they didn't get all the levels, and it never reached Europe, so the World-e is just innaccessible there.
The Virtual Console release of the game on the Wii U in 2016 included a modified ROM of (cont.)
the game, where World-e and all of its levels are accessible without needing an e-Reader, and this with all versions of the games.
I could find a patch for the US version online, but not the European one (which included other European languages!), so I acquired the Virtual Console app file, and extracted the game's ROM from it. It plays perfectly and without any problems on an emulator!
Idk I find it cool that there's a 2016 revision of a 2003 game and that it could possibly played on original hardware too
@Siphonay
That "2003 game" was itself a port of ther version of SMB 3 from the SNES game Super Mario All-Stars.
@ND3JR I wouldn't say this just because it uses similar graphics idk
@Siphonay Really? Seems like a lot of wasted effort when they could have just ported it.
