The WHY in why Facebook (YouTube, Snap, Twitter, Et. al) are bad is so much more than their data policies or advertising it's that their entire existence is predicated on a LIE.

A lie so pervasive that almost the entire wold believes it.

That there service is "free" and that our contributions are not valuable.

When in fact there is nothing more invaluable than our time and attention, of which we are each given only a finite amount to spend.

One thing I don't understand is people complaining about graffiti on trains and walls but they couldn't be bothered a bit by ads being everywhere in our daily life actively and literally trying to manipulate everybody's thoughts and actions. But it's legit because that access to your brain is bought with money.

Well, the company decided that they only want their software developers to live in NY, rather than AZ, even when they were exceeding expectation. (A person 2 levels above my immediate boss wanted to make a point.)

So, since I live in AZ, and the company's HQ is in NY, NY, I'm without a job.

And this job brings my resume up to 13 years developing software professionally in PHP.

I'm good.

I'm damn good.

And I'm humble. Which might be a problem.

My pre-order of “Taste of Wrath” by @MattFnWallace arrived the other day. It’s the 7th & final(?) course in his Sin Du Jour series, the dessert to his sumptuous banquet, & I just dropped everything to devour it.

I have no idea how to describe this rowdy, genre-blending series except to use phrases like “catering is hell —literally”, “zombie clowns”, & “killer bunny”. It was horrifying & hilarious by turns; and always wonderfully, wonderfully weird.
