goodbye, guys, for now.

I love this service and will only speak positively about it, but too many people are being triggered by me just trying to have a normal conversation.

I will come back occasionally, I guess. Goodluck.

Just because culturally you would expect some content to be filtered does not mean others share the same concerns.

To be clear, not opposed to content warnings generally. But it can be very difficult to know what should and should not go behind a CW.

It's probably impossible to get everyone on the same page for filtering. Find people who self-censor. Choose an instance where people are expected to self censor. Don't be angry at people on the federated timeline for not following rules they never agreed to

I feel very empathetic to people who feel threatened by the world and want a safe space.

But at the same time I simply want to have a civil discussion about issues of the day.

It seems as though some people find any discussion that doesn't involve unicorns farting rainbows to be triggering. Jesus

Here's a question for you, is irony, by definition triggering and is my even bringing up the issue of triggering and irony by definition triggering and thus off limits on this service?

I am sorry if my attempts at CW toots have not come off as CW toots.

I am on the cusp of giving up on this service when it comes to anything other than what I had for lunch today. I really like this, but the restraints on my ability to have a general discussion on _anything_ is a little bit much.

meta-real talk

it will be interesting to see if this service goes inward or explodes in popularity as people find they like its features. it could go either way. the user base is very sensitive and yet there is a lot of potential here if the gets sorted out.

Politics

It is very amusing to me how hyper sensitive people are about politics here. I am growing tired of even thinking about it. Shrug.

politics

It is amusing how the alt-right is now freaking out that Trump is part of the "deep state." the whole thing is bonkers. You can't put ice cream on poop and not have poop at the bottom.

I have done a little v-log using Facebook Live about this service. Please take it in the spirit in which it was done. I feel the CW feature brings with it some interesting issues about the future of public spaces. migugin.com/talk-to-me-interne

@Migukin @CobaltVelvet I don't see how that's feasible. At which point do U consider the basic things around U as "too much to handle?" There's nothing wrong with trying to shield your feelings from what's going on around you, but at the same time, it's not practical. Life is going to happen whether you like it or not. Maybe just step back, regroup, and then rejoin? That would be a healthier repose than "I need a safe place" (which you should already have at home.)

@Migukin same could have been said about the usability of Snapchat. People learn and adapt to use the platforms they prefer

an observation

I am all for organic growth and hate marketing as much as anyone else, but if you want this service to succeed, you're going to have to think like a mainstream press person. And, right now, I could see any number of angles about this service that would not be flattering -- even though I, as a user, love it so far.

an observation

huh. now I know why the extremes have taken over politics. they're the only ones willing to have any debate at all, if this service is any indication.

idea: as part of an build-in management system your ID on other instances, you would also have a little blurb associated with each instance, to give you some sense of its "personality."

idea: some way build into each instance to allow you to manage your ID on OTHER instances. that would be one way to work around no central log-in system.

given that the federated timeline soaks up all your attention, it should be 2/3s of the screen on desktop in my opinion.

politics

so, really, politics is dead. If only people with extreme views are willing to debate issues at all, then we're totally, entirely screwed.

Civil society is dead.
