Circling back to my "is there a better option for MFA than authy" from last week, I'm declaring that I haven't found anything better.
Also, I don't want to overcome the inertia of moving over 40 MFA accounts.
Ah, when silly hostnames come back to entertain you. Years ago, I bought an HP microserver, so called it brownsauce. Then I bought a second, so obviously called it tabasco, because sauces.
I recently bought one of those £14 pm2.5 particle sensors from China, it turned up this week, and I hooked it up to adafruit io.
Now I apparently have a graph of 'tabasco particles' 😂
You can follow multiple hashtags on Mastodon very easily:
1. Search for a hashtag
2. Go to the search results column, open its options and select "Pin"
3. On the pinned column, open its options and select "Include additional tags for this column"
4. Add all the hashtags you want to follow to "Any of these"
This pinned column will then show results for the tags you add to it.
It allows you to follow topics in a single column the same way you would follow people.
I'm in the middle of a self-security audit of sorts, tidying my lastpass and updating passwords etc, and I decided to do a count of how many things I have 2FA for in authy.
42. 42 different accounts which require an additional code to log in, and this number is only going up as I enable MFA everywhere it's available.
MFA apps are going to have to change soon, or become an unusable mess of "just a great big list"
I know, I know, alexa is a bad thing ( #surveillance ) but I am genuinely happy that there's finally a skill for pocketcasts https://www.amazon.com/Podcast-Media-LLC-Pocket-Casts/dp/B07P3GBW57/
With Netflix's Marvel shows being cancelled (presumably moved to Disney's new streaming service), and now the announcement of #BritBox from the BBC and ITV, which I assume will also have some sort of show exclusivity around it, I can only foresee an increase in piracy, not a decrease.
When will companies learn to reduce friction? If I have to pay for one streaming service, fine. If I have to pay for three or four? Then I'll be looking at torrents and usenet again...
It's funny how rapidly changing goals can force a bit of a reset of your mental state.
At the start of the year I decided to start a bullet journal, to try and bring some order and sense to my brain.
Looking back on my goals for January, they seem fairly lofty compared to my one goal for March: "take a drink from a full glass with my right arm".
Stupid broken arm, which is actually a minor blessing in disguise

first, they sold exceptions to privacy tracking to Facebook and Twitter, now it comes out they've got a header override that allows them to set header exceptions on demand.
don't use this garbage.
I started mapping out my home network in a notepad (not an easy task with a broken right arm...), in preparation for properly segmenting off things like iot devices, and I'm going to need a bigger boat. Erm, I mean notepad...
Two pages of A5 filled so far, and that's only half my raspberry pis/other SBCs, and no VMs/Docker containers.
I may have gone a little overboard with my home network. I haven't even built myself a smart IoT doorbell yet! 😂
I was going to toot about how I'm a fool for not making more notes, after I had a great idea for what could become a dystopian story (because the world needs more of those ;-) /s ) but had entirely forgotten it due to not taking notes.
The process of typing that toot brought the idea back into my head, so lucky escape there.
Moral of the story: No need to take notes, just type a toot about forgetting a thing ;-) #rubberduckdebugging
ok, step one was easy. https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout then select only location history, and change file format to kml format.
Once that's done, I'll see how well my nextcloud install copes with a 170MB kml file...
Didn't check the backup of my OwnCloud directory before nuking my server.
_Of course_ the backup was poked, and less than half of it is good.
On the other hand, there's also google photos and amazon prime photos, so I'm not overly sad that I didn't check my rsync.
I should probably check those other two backups though...
