where tf do thumb drives show up in linux?

@Mainebot if it's an ubuntu-derivative, try /media/<user>/... ?

@Mainebot They will show up in /dev as block devices (so as root you run mount /dev/partition /mountpoint) you can use blkid to read disk labels and find the appropriate block device, some distros run a deamon that will automount them in /media for you

@swiley @Mainebot also try /run/media, /run/${user}/, /run/${user}/media and variations thereof. It's freaking annoying that it's not consistent from kennel to kennel and distro to distro.

@MightyBigCar @Mainebot If there are that many options just run mount with no arguments to see where things are mounted.

@Mainebot

What distro? On Debian I ended up installing an automounter so I could stop messing about with them. The daemon mounts them under /media and notifies me via a system tray applet.
