At what point does a community admit that it's collective wisdom is no replacement for specialized knowledge?

I'm so frustrated because I really want this stupid experience to work, but it's full of so many glaring holes.

This is linux for dumb idiots like me and it's so patently obvious that all this usability is a token gesture with no thought or effort put into making it a good experience.

@Mainebot @Elizafox That's always been the problem of FLOSS software. After working with GUIs for customers for a few months now, I'm starting to see how wide the gap is between how I think things ought to work as a developer on one side, and the needs and preferences of the customer on the other. I'm a multidisciplinary person who can also do graphic design, and even I find it hard. Gotta be an employee on a team to dot the i's and cross the t's.

@thor @Elizafox

I think it's even more fundamental than that. I think there is a central usability problem that exists within the participatory action of developing for the platform.

How do you balance the anyone-can-play aspect with the need for central, pillar tools that are good? How do you make both accessible and visible without representation issues? Why are both still reliant on arcane commands through a terminal? Why are UX concerns ignored?
