@Mainebot Lame.

Not that subreddit.

That subreddit is cool.

But all those users who paid for WinRAR.

@unorigmoniker I think about buying it sometimes. I've been using it for I don't even know how many years, but 50 bucks? No. No never. Not ever.

@Mainebot @unorigmoniker Both of those are making good money off of corporate users who can't afford to use unlicensed software. They let home users use it for free so that they'll get used to it and use it at work, where their bosses will have to pay. Don't feel bad for not paying for those, it's part of their strategy.

@mux2000 @Mainebot True. To a degree. We used to have a corporate license for WinZip. Never did pay for WinRAR though. Now we don't pay for anything since macOS and Windows 7 and above have built-in ZIP.

@Mainebot @unorigmoniker Another good company losing its income because Microsoft bundles a free alternative with Windows...

@mux2000 @unorigmoniker The bulk discount rates make winrar appealing at large scales, that's for sure. I don't know why I never used 7zip. I do use the built-in zip functionality in Windows, but I think it feels thin. Kind of fragile.
