@Mainebot it's strange for me to read this the same day i was galavanting in vancouver island and contemplating a dreamy and permanent escape from california to the north, and then be sucked back to reality by your confirmation that finding professional work is often a non-starter unless you know someone. i have great sympathy with your frustration, having worked with marcom folks and being in a former tech comms position myself.
