historically, web infrastructure was often provided first by universities. Hell, even facebook started out like that. Not the best example, but at least they usually have money, structure and some kind of ethical background.

I guess you don't need millions, but i would love to see instances that don't depend on one guy and his likability to keep the instance running and up to date.
It could also be a club or an organization that then uses it's instance for it's own communication. Maybe a Union?

So are there so far any instances run by trustworthy organizations with structural and financial background to keep running with many users for a long time?
e.g. Chaos Computer Club or Quadrature du net
So, what happens if an instance decides to shut down? Is my mastodon identity lost forever? I love the idea of this, but I'm guessing it isn't a charity. How are instances expected to make money to cover costs? (Unless I'm missing something? 🤔)

Eigentlich ist das 500- Zeichenlimit ja eine große Einladung hier längere Texte zu veröffentlichen. Über Mastodonlyrik würde ich mich ja sehr freuen. Vielleicht starte ich morgen mein kleines (unlyrisches) Projekt über charmante Mitmachangebote zur Weltverbesserung - ich habe den Eindruck, so was scheint hier ganz gut reinzupassen.

Die User-Accounts sind fest an Instanzen getackert, geht der Server, geht das soziale Kapital eines Accounts verloren.
Mein Wunsch: Über Instanzen migrierbare eindeutige Accounts, unabhängig von einer festen Instanz.

Wer das jetzt nicht versteht, ist wahrscheinlich schon lange aus dem Kosmos Popmusik/Formatradio ausgestiegen. Ich zieh das ja bis heute durch, regelmäßig HR3 zu hören, und so viel banaler deutscher Dudelschlager wie derzeit lief da noch nie.
