According to the laws of orbital mechanics, Mastodon can't succeed. We already have a double-star system of Facebook and Twitter, the major and minor component, respectively. Then again, maybe Twitter has acted stupidly enough for long enough that there's a real chance for this to succeed.

You seem like a smart guy, @drmirror can you find another law that supports a successful outcome? Like some quantum all realities are in existence type of thing? Or maybe suggest ways to circumvent the laws of orbital mechanics so Mastodon can be a viable option?

I mean, you know.. people are trying to do something good here. Like the rest of us, you seem to want not-Twitter and I bet you'd like to see Mastodon grow. Your toot had a little Eyore "can't work" vibe.

No offense meant. 🕊

@Lisa I'm extremely pessimistic, because I've seen so many alternative networks come and go. And then I heard somebody explaining it in these orbital mechanics terms, and it made perfect sense to me. The time when new stars and planets can form in our system is over, we won't get any new networks anymore. Deal with it. Then again, when I see this, I think that maybe, just maybe, it might work.

You, @drmirror, are a closet optimist. 😄
