Strangely enough, look to the goofy ecchi romcom manga "We Never Learn" as a kind of counterpoint to this: it's a story that objects to the whole "focus on what you're good at; you can't be ______ if you don't have the natural ability," even though like My Hero Academia it believes in having natural aptitudes for certain professions.

As interesting and unique an approach to a superhero setting as My Hero Academia's is, I've been conflicted about how I feel about the society depicted in the story for a while. Heck, the manga and its spinoff question it in different ways as well.

This video does a good job of analyzing some of it, though I'm still not sure if I like that sort of society.

I'm always making myself feel guilty for having feelings. I end up putting other people's feelings ahead of mine because putting myself first feels selfish, and like...what kind of person doesn't care what other people are feeling? And I second guess not whether my feelings are 'valid' (which they are), but whether they're justified or I'm just overreacting to something...?

Here's the thing, though: putting yourself first is a form of self kindness. I need to stop fearing it.
