@gameragodzilla The science of climate change has been (and continues to be) debated in scientific forums (journals, conferences, etc.). The consensus that has been reached amongst scientists is that climate change is happening and that it is caused by humans. The counterarguments have been presented & dismissed with evidence. The only people still arguing are against it those with a financial interest in maintaining the status quo.

@gideonro Let's be clear that both the 130,000 year age and the suggestion that this is the result of human (or hominid) action are **very** controversial. freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngul

I hear many misconceptions about React. React is very simple, it's conceptually a lot simpler than Vue.js or most other frameworks — it's a brilliant invention that provides just the right pieces that are needed to build complex apps with components and no more. Rare libraries/frameworks approach such simplicity. The fact that there's an ecosystem of unnecessary monstrous "solutions" doesn't make it complex.

"Free speech" doesn't mean that people are required to give you a platform or listen to you. It means that an authoritarian agency won't punish you for speaking.

Your community still may respond to your speech and hold you accountable for any deleterious impacts, such as inciting violence or willful misrepresentation. Freedom within your society means accountability to your society. If no one wants to hear your crap, its not impinging on your rights to send you offstage.

@brunodias The followbots did provide a useful service, at least early on, by "force populating" the public timeline, esp. for smaller instances. But you may be right now - they may have outlived their usefulness.

Also, you're absolutely right re: relevance algorithms. No algorithm is going to be worth anything unless a) it has a very powerful AI and b) it knows you better than you know yourself (a scary thought!)

@thurloat A while ago (like two weeks!) you mentioned that Moosetodon was going to focus on UX stuff? I have a feature request for you: a translate function, where I can click on a toot & have Google translate do it's thing. BTW, I'm a full-stack node developer at work & I'd love to contribute. Busy family life will make it hard, tho.

@guinan Stargate is my favourite Scifi franchise. I would definitely give SG-1 a shot. Also, the casting of SG-1 is really good. Better than the movie.
It's a very chronological show and new things are introduced over time, so you should watch it in order. That also means it keeps getting better over time. Let me know if you have any questions.

Came across this in a review on Amazon: "in order to understand JavaScript well, you need to on some level be able to think like a programmer". Not bagging on reviewer - I think he's actually hit on something there. Want to learn a straight-forward, logical language? Pick Basic, Python, or even C/C++. Want a language where you really have to bend your way of thinking? Pick Javascript!

Looking for books to work through with oldest son to learn . Mostly looking for exercises, since I can explain stuff.

Why does it seem that the most judgmental people are that same folks that apparently find a basis for their beliefs in a book that says "judge not, lest ye be judged"?

It's weird how so many straight men worry about unwanted advances from gay men when all you straight dudes do is hit on women who don't want you.

Oh, and I should mention... I did this all via SSH from my netbook, sitting at the kitchen table downstairs. I love !

Just threw together a instance on my desktop machine for some bot development. Need to tweak the config somewhat, but makes it so easy. And kudos to mastodon devs - the Docker setup instructions were simple to follow.
