"Weโve adapted our entire culture around Facebook. That makes 'just quitting' easier said than done."
This is very true and it's actually fairly disturbing to know there are sites that require Facebook as the only way to register an account. Why would you tie your business model to a separate entity? Why would you not, at a minimum, allow normal email + password signups?

Back when I was active on Usenet it was considered pretty normal to have house rules for any newsgroup, you were also expected to refrain from posting long enough to notice and learn the unspoken customs (this was called "lurking").
Nowadays people see it as an orchestrated attack against free speech, shout references to 1984, and threaten to move elsewhere.
Yet the ones asking us all to behave politely are called "hypersensitive"?
#ff the old internet; the seeming miracle of connecting with strangers across maps and time zones; that friendship is discovering they are like you in all the ways that matter and different in all the ways that are interesting; the serendipity of stumbling sideways into coding because you simply want to connect to more people in more ways; the resurrection of the old internet
And with that I've hit 500 follows and it's time for our first #giveaway!
Would you like this lovely FUCK FASCISM shirt? Of course you would!

LB: the whole point is NOT that people literally want to be unaware of what's going on in the world / politics.
but when you are feeling depressed, overwhelmed, and out of control because you're so afraid and sad about the world, it's nice to have a place you can go to chill out and take your mind off it, that doesn't throw all those things in your face every 5 seconds. Hence the content warning insistence.
