Finally, an update on this thing! Instead of doing actual work, I've been messing with more tree-generating tools.
The sketch-based generators still required too much human input for my tastes, so I wrote a generator that spits out trees with a single click.
The trees in the gif are straight out of the generator, no manual tweaks at all. Not perfect, but not bad at all for requiring one click to make.
GitLab "Ultimate" and "Gold" for self hosting now free for education and open source.
This is GitLab taking this massive opportunity after Microshaft swallowed GitHub and making the best of it.
The more people are moving over now, the better their own future will be in the long run.
GitLab also make migration easier, starting the #movingtogitlab campaign with a straight-forward video etc.
GitLab is open source itself, too.

When I joined masto, I gravitated towards following creative peeps and noticed a thing that's pretty common to all of us: we feel guilty for promoting places that people can buy our work or otherwise support us financially. So I started the #CreativeToots hashtag for that very reason. Got an Etsy page? Online store? Patreon? Selling a piece of art? Throw that tag on it. Do it with unfettered abandon. Everyone else: Look at that tag for artists to support. Buy their stuff. Help them create. <3
I like how restaurants in #Memphis define vegetables: we ordered salad, its mostly covered with BBQ pork; we asked for turnip greens, it comes topped with bacon ๐
