@hfrazey My wife got me a dayminder kind of thing, and gets upset when I don't record stuff in it. But to tell the truth I don't even think about it. I should.

I think the only way anybody ever organizes is by doing it their own way; you can't organize with someone else's system.

@reedsandstrings Back in the Ancient Days, I was taught that art; but it has advanced enormously since then. The last oboist I spoke to who made reeds the modern way used some sort of digital micrometer to gauge the thickness of the reed from tip to heart.

My old teacher used clear nail polish and a thin tissue-like substance called "fishskin" (which wasn't what it really was) to seal the edges around the base. But:

To get back to your problem: any good orchestras where you are?

Can we make this (or another post)
get +500 boosts, proofing that the argument to stay away from the #fediverse because one can here only reach out to a few is completly wrong?

Wondering how high the reach of this post is?

Well, we don't know. We don't track the users.

You only can see the boosts/fav/reply.
If that's a lot, it reached a lot.

If that made one rethink their opinion here you go:

Sick of hearing about Al Franken yet? Twitter thread that suggests interesting stuff may come out.

@craigmaloney Every time I get rid of stuff, I find out I should have kept about 10% of it for some reason. I have no idea why this should be so.

@KameronHurley New Mexico is nice; excellent sunsets, mostly nice weather (though in parts lots of grit blowing in the wind). More liberal than neighboring Texas in some ways, also. I was not far from Clovis in the Eastern part of the state.

One downside: they still have bubonic plague on rare occasions.

Dang, I almost forgot this was here. I've been up to my ears in grading and such.

@craigmaloney Python is convenient for all kinds of things, isn't it? I learned it to teach a class (Numerical Analysis) and didn't want to have to learn Java (which all our students have to learn). Now most of our math majors get a couple of computer languages. I hope to find time to learn it better. Just in case you haven't done this and don't know it: Type "import antigravity" into Python. (If you already know, never mind.)

Huh. I guess I didn't do one. I'm a mathematician and university faculty member (my opinions are not necessarily those of my employers or anybody else). I have a 4-year-old kid who is trying to climb on my shoulders as I speak, a really great wife who's out of town (or I wouldn't dare be caught on social media while caring for the kid), and some cats.
I am a compulsive reader, with a personal library in the thousands (probably less than 10,000, but I haven't actually counted).

I would not mind doing NaNoWriMo, but this year is especially busy, what with a double overload. Not bad money, of course, but no time to do anything much fun. That half-finished Epic in the old hard drive will remain unfinished another year, alas.

@bradlibum The BRE trick is good, but be aware that there's a maximum of like 12 ounces for first-class postage. So maybe just put a couple of rocks in the envelope?

@FeyTechnologist It's been absurdly hot in lots of places. <sarcasm> Imagine how much worse it would be if global warming weren't real! </sarcasm>

So I didn't look; did the stock market crash? It's kind of a tradition to have a stock market crash on a Friday in October.

Not obscene, may be in poor taste. Show more

@jason To be honest, I probably would never do that myself. But I'd think about it.
😃

@jason Sounds like a reasonable approach. Also, if you don't like the people throwing the party, you can say, "Sorry, can't stay, still hung over from the GOOD party you weren't invited to... Um, I mean, uh... Never mind. Bye."

I use Windows 10 (because I was foolish enough to upgrade from 7, but never mind). They have, for over a year, not accepted my refusal to let Cortana™ learn my voice and answer my questions. With each upgrade or service pack, I get a new set of amazing questions Cortana™ could answer for me.

Today's suggested question: "Cortana, how many meters in a kilometer?" Seriously. As bad was "Cortana, what is the square root of 256?" Clearly, MS thinks I'm a moron.

@dragonfly @Stonekettle Greetings, and welcome to, well, whatever club this is.
