#introductions Huh. I guess I didn't do one. I'm a mathematician and university faculty member (my opinions are not necessarily those of my employers or anybody else). I have a 4-year-old kid who is trying to climb on my shoulders as I speak, a really great wife who's out of town (or I wouldn't dare be caught on social media while caring for the kid), and some cats.
I am a compulsive reader, with a personal library in the thousands (probably less than 10,000, but I haven't actually counted).
I would not mind doing NaNoWriMo, but this year is especially busy, what with a double overload. Not bad money, of course, but no time to do anything much fun. That half-finished Epic in the old hard drive will remain unfinished another year, alas.
So I didn't look; did the stock market crash? It's kind of a tradition to have a stock market crash on a Friday in October.
I use Windows 10 (because I was foolish enough to upgrade from 7, but never mind). They have, for over a year, not accepted my refusal to let Cortana™ learn my voice and answer my questions. With each upgrade or service pack, I get a new set of amazing questions Cortana™ could answer for me.
Today's suggested question: "Cortana, how many meters in a kilometer?" Seriously. As bad was "Cortana, what is the square root of 256?" Clearly, MS thinks I'm a moron.
But if I have to, I will keep making art, I will keep making music and I will keep trying to find an avenue for income right up until homelessness and starvation
