I've never been on a proper grown-up vacation, but that changes today, right after work! I'm not freaking out at all, everything is fiiiiinnne.*
*(Travel is stressful! How do other adults have fun doing this? Airplanes are terrifying and packing is hard!)
@viciousviscosity @Gogogadgetpants I thought that was Human Horn.
@viciousviscosity That is what my wise brother told me, too. He says I need to "put on my sunglasses and cultivate my vacation persona" and to get a little tipsy and yell "I'm ON VACATION!" at anyone who looks at me askance.
@Gogogadgetpants Your brother is giving you sound advice. The earlier to cultivate, the more fun to be had. 🍹 😁
@Gogogadgetpants I *love* traveling and flying. I kind of hate all the BS at the airport but that pales against getting in a metal tube in one city and getting off in another.
@filkerdave I love the IDEA of it, but something inside my brain get confused by air travel and goes a bit overboard on the flight bit of fight or flight.
I feel like a big baby, but I got my doctor to prescribe me some medication, so hopefully I can more like you this time!
@Gogogadgetpants May I ask what time of day you're going and if it's an overnight flight? Because there are some things that I've learned that can help
@filkerdave early morning! Any tips are appreciated!
@Gogogadgetpants Hmm...that kind of limits the "stay up late the night before and have a glass of wine before you get on the plane" method.
Do you have (or can you borrow) a good set of noise-cancelling headphones? If the flight is early enough (7AM or earlier) then you can probably nap on the plane. Comfy eye-mask, earplugs or the headphones above, and them some really, REALLY, mellow music.
@Gogogadgetpants About how long is the flight, do you know? It won't be deep sleep (unless you're like me and fly all the time) but you can get a some REMs in on a 2+ hour flight.
I *always* have the weirdest dreams on those flights.
