In a US Naval Base. There is an American supermarket here, selling the most bewildering, polychromatic, kaleidoscopic, acid-trip array of bizarre confectionery I have ever seen. (Of course, because *everything* is so brightly-coloured, nothing particularly stands-out..) There is also an American bar here, full of cheerful, gregarious, friendly types. The bar serves exactly one type of beer. These folks are most inscrutable indeed.
@ej Not quite on topic have always wondered what the "American section" in supermarkets elsewhere in the world looks like. I'm not sure how they pick what staples from "home” to put in anybody's sections!
@Gogogadgetpants Oh crumbs, I'm having trouble remembering what the American Stuff™ aisle looks like in my local supermarket. I fancy perhaps this encounter with a genuine American supermarket has expunged it from my memory!
Tell you what; I shall send you a photograph of it, next time I'm back in dear old England..
@ej Ah, the UK section of the grocery store! Presumably popular teas and biscuits, marmite, various canned puddings with names that sound suspiciously made-up... The real treasure there is your candy bars! We have terrible chocolate.
