after spending a few days considering delaying sending the impeachment resolution to the senate for as long as 100 days (in order to give biden some time to confirm cabinet members and push legislation), the house of representatives has apparently decided to deliver the resolution to mcconnell's desk "immediatey" after it passes, which should be today.
that puts the ball in mcconnell's court. he could use emergency powers to reconvene the senate and start a trial immediately, or he could stick with allowing the senate to remain in recess until january 19.
word is that "as many as 12" republican senators are prepared to vote to convict. assuming that the democratic caucus is in lockstep (very likely), a total of at least 17 republicans would have to vote to convict for it to pass.
