Neglected bamboo, getting some TLC. Photos, first, the crookstem (?) I’m currently working on: finished portion is on the right, unfinished on the left. Next photo, a rare bamboo, “Robert Somethingorother”*, all finished. It’s hard to see the fat shoots growing alongside. All will get a good watering so the foliage will be lush.

*This bamboo has fat stalks that turn golden with random green stripes on the culm rather than the groove. (See photo.)

Beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax) and
Hooker’s fairy bells (Disporum hookeri)

Both on the Wagonwheel Lake Trail.

This banner in my daughter’s school is... confusing... hilarious...

and apparently I’m *that parent* who laughs out loud and takes a photo of it.

Oh, this little tree? ‘Ta’int nothin’ where I come from.

I love solitary, inconspicuous, tiny flowers that most people pass by.

Nemophila parviflora

A scrub jay flew into my house and couldn’t get out.

(Excuse the snorfling. It’s grass season.)

Still life with Mormon cricket and oak gall.

Near Mossyrock, WA, on the way to the Dry Side* with my ecology class. Taken from our bus.

* Eastern Washington for you non-locals.

Tonight’s dinner: bratwurst stir fried rice with cabbage and sauerkraut. I would make this again, only I chose the tamari instead of my usual fish sauce, thinking it would be better. I was wrong. Fish sauce would be superior.

Repeatable.

Ribes bracteosum, aka stink currant. That’s an unfortunate name for such a lovely shrub, and while pungent, I don’t think it stinks. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is my hard hat, and my brand of humor. The reference might sail past most of you, unless you hit up Wikipedia.

I picked the sticker up at the Steam Donkey taproom. I’ve been planning this for weeks.

The porter at the Steam Donkey tap room in WA. 😊 Open Thursday through Saturday. Stop in if you’re passing by. Wishkah Ave and Broadway (that’s Hwy 101).

‪Tolmiea menziesii— Piggy-back plant. Easily one of my very favorite flowers: it’s unusual and quirky and seems content to not be the crowd-pleasing spectacle like trillium or tiger lily.‬

Visiting @nev’s neighborhood in my forest ecology classes. We’re covering disturbances, including insects. This being Forestry, of course we’re focusing on pests, some that incur minor or cosmetic damage, and a handful that incur major damage. This cutie below is one of the latter.

I’ve been loving the sketches I’ve been doing in my journals. They wouldn’t pass scientific standards, but I enjoy them and the process. Journaling like this suits my learning style.

From this point onward, my poster is non-negotiable, meaning if I have to choose between “you” and taking the poster down—buh bye. And yes, it’s in the living room.

($2 bill on the right for scale. Purchased from Tower Records/Las Vegas in 1988. The “Chrome Cassette” dates it.)
