Gee I wished there was a way apart from Google Play/Apple Music to have my music library uploaded somewhere and be able to play it back on a desktop app =_=

Apple Music requires iTunes, and iTunes is a disaster with the size of my library (~100GB / 13k tracks). And Google Play is owned by Google and there's officially no desktop apps and the ones that exist are only decent.

Right now I'm using Swinsian on Mac and Dopamine on Windows but that implies that I have my trusty external drive with me to play my music.

I've seen Tomahawk that should be able to play stuff from GPlay/network but the UI (at least on Mac) is god awful and nothing ever worked on my machine.

Do I have to learn how to use mpd and a mpd client or something? I really wish I did not have to do that because apparently nobody wants to do a GUI for mpd and that annoys me because I don't want to read my music in a friggin CLI.

I would gladly switch to Spotify or similar except that I still have a shit-ton of music that's impossible to find on the Big Services so 🤷

@Eramdam I haven't used it, but Voltra looks promising. Extra benefit: they're donating part of their profit to the open source software they use ✨ twitter.com/nayafia/status/939

@seanlinsley I'm not gonna buy their hardware but the desktop app looks very pretty. I'm currently making it import all my library :D

@seanlinsley OMG the Voltra desktop app is really slick.

And they have an archiving service!!

And their desktop app is cross-platform.

Thanks for the heads up. I might actually give it a try for a few days 😻

@seanlinsley noooooo I just noticed it doesn't have a shuffle/repeat 😭

@Eramdam I don't know anything about it, but I know Nextcloud can do audio (amongst all the other stuff Nextcloud does). I suppose it'd probably be overkill unless you were gonna use it for other stuff too.
