Okay. My professional webpage now refers to my gender identity, albeit indirectly and in the most timid way possible. Trying to convince myself not to take it down before anyone sees. Seriously why am I so scared? I have tenure. I've presented femme at the last two conferences. Half my subfield already uses the feminine form of my name. No-one is even slightly bothered. Yet I am still terrified. Sigh. Too many bad memories to believe the world has really changed I suppose.

My fiancé's just told me that his brother's wife's uncle got deported.

My fiancé' father voted for Trump and constantly posts FB memes about how "illegal aliens" are a drain on our economy and are dangerous rapists, when his granddaughter's mother is Latina.

I fucking hate his father. I hold him responsible for this administration, as he acted (and continues to act) as an unpaid social media marketer for Trump. And I always will.

A tiny joy of gender ambiguity: children construct the most endearing descriptions. My daughter confidently informs me that I am a boygirl. Another child tells me that Captain America is a girl who likes to be a boy. A third tells me that some dads can be girls because girls can marry girls and one of them can be the dad. They do seem to attach importance to the amab/afab distinction, but they're totes fine with complex mappings onto masc/femme identities, roles and presentation. It's sweet.

I noticed one common thing cis people assume about trans people is that we hate our bodies. That we literally want them replaced. Quora had a question like "Will brain transplants be a boon for transgender ppl?"

In my experience, it's way more complicated than that. My body has been with me for every hug, every sip of wine, every mile ran. And phys dysphoria's about my body not revealing the woman I am. As a coping mechanism for it, I needed to find parts of me to love.
