@stylus I also recommend the Chanur saga by C. J. Cherryh, and the Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold (especially the ones about Elli Quin and Ekaterin). I would hesitate to recommend Anne McCaffrey unless you love dragons more than you love LGBT representation.
@stylus @vernepator_cur Besides The Story of Your Life, and other stories from the collection I found it in, another good Ted Chiang piece is his essay for the New Yorker on uninventing Chinese characters.
