I’ve been away for a couple weeks, so I’m catching up on the trending hashtag thing in a most rudimentary way this morning - I honestly don’t have a valid opinion except that I’d probably turn it off if there was a switch. I use Tweetbot for twitter because it doesn’t shove stuff in my timeline that’s not chronological posts from people I follow.
Aside: I think one of these would balance out the NASA sticker on my MacBook: https://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/mastodon-logo-sticker/791326/
@sonicbooming yeah, it was for me for a long time, except for circumstances. Love the community, have made several friends over the years, always made meetups. Hasn’t been an Austin meetup in several years, sadly.
@sonicbooming I run my ass off all day & everyone can see my computer anyway. I usually eat lunch on the run while trying to catch up with paperwork. I had jobs that it wasn’t as much of a problem for a long time, but this place is so goddam busy that if I spend 5 minutes doing something non work-related, I just have to work 5 minute longer at the end of the day. Evenings, weekends, I’m fried so i haven’t made a post in years.
@sonicbooming Congrats On living long enough! I faded out for a few months there — workworkwork, but have been sticking my toes back in the last few weeks. So little time, though.
So, managing to get 20 whole pictures from 1995 up on Flickr today felt like an accomplishment until I started thinking about the other 10-15,000 photos I need to tag, name, organize, color correct and sort... I mean, I’m glad I finally started using Lightroom a couple of years ago, but this is daunting. I still have slides & negs to scan all over the house, too.
Cascadas de Tamul, Mexico, 1995. Believe it or not, there's a person in this for scale, just to the right of the river.

Here is a link to a song called Cloud Ships by my band Carbon 7. http://carbon7.net/12-1-12_MP3/3_Cloud_Ships.mp3
I hope everyone is having a mellow or exciting evening as is your wont.
@DistroJunkie Building a drone sounds hard but awesome. They got a CNC machine at the robotics lab at LASA the year before Erin graduated & she was pretty stoked to be able fab parts. FIRST Robotics was the #1 factor in her deciding on an E.E. trajectory. I can’t recommend it enough if you’ve got school age kids.
@Devils_Rancher A time was had: ( Me & Jeremy Burge of Emojipedia) https://octodon.social/media/BRpxMgjocE5r-DD8Pnk
@DistroJunkie I need to do that some time! I sorely miss going to the kids robotics meets, just because of the novelty of the designs.
Good morning, earthlings. Beginning my 2nd TWO DAY weekend in row, & I feel almost human, almost hopeful that live could be “normal” whatever that means. Going to breakfast with an old internet friend from the Mac News Network days — 2002-2004 or so. The Lounge there was my online home for a few years & I still have real friends from there. The internet is weird, no? Ok, coffee.
@Reinderdijkhuis Ah, you are correct, 256 mb soldered on plus 1 expansion slot. I have heard of people removing the on-board RAM when it went bad, but had forgotten the slot. So many Macs lost to the sands of time...
@Reinderdijkhuis I thought the RAM was soldered on to the iBook. You got the guts to go at it with a soldering iron? I surrendered my daughter’s iBook to the Goodwill computer store when the ram on the mobo went bad.
@anthracite Hah, that album came up on random on my way to work this morning & honestly, I skipped that song, but rocked Free Will.
The rest of that roll of Provia (that was worth looking at) is here:

Kinda happy to hear Fickr got acquired by SmugMug -- it might turn out to be a good thing.
"Found" (buried in Lightroom) a roll of film from 2012 that I'd never put on line. Here's the view from the McDonald observatory looking east, towards Fort Davis, Texas.
@jannamark You had me at “started a fire.”
I have knack for that — I hope the conflagration was controlled swiftly.
@chamarin @anthracite Fucking off on the Internet seems like the right thing to do at this moment.
@anthracite I came to the realization recently that I’ve been working at something or other 50-60 hours a weeks since I got my first job during my Junior year of high school. That’s 40 years of going at it hard, & suddenly I’m starting to break physically. My brain keeps telling me to push on, & my back/neck/hips/knees/elbows/wrist say “no.” Getting old beats the alternative I guess, but damn.
@anthracite Makes sense. NFS doesn’t massively scale on a dime. Plan ahead!
