I’m rolling down the hill to the hospital in a couple hours, my step daughter is having a baby via C-section at 9:30. Hugely excited about the kid, somewhat whelmed about the notion of being old enough to be a grandfather.
@Devils_Rancher
Early congratulations! I have three grandsons now. I also didn't know how to take it. The hardest part was what will he call me. I finally decided I liked Papa but the baby daddy decided that was going to be his father's name and was off the table for me. Unwilling to come to terms with a different grandfather name, I decided they will call me by my regular nickname like everyone else. That leads people to think that I'm a step of some sort but I don't care.
@DistroJunkie So far, this one’s a girl, but mom is hell on wheels, so I’m not sure what difference that makes, but I had an easier time with my daughter than my son who got moody & clammed up at puberty. I think she’ll be in new-natal ICU for a couple weeks, so not sure how much we’ll get to see her at first.
@Devils_Rancher
My oldest was born a month early and they said he would be in the Neonatal ICU for a few weeks before he was born. The biggest concern was lung development. They determined he was breathing fine and he was out in a few hours. I guess caution and preparation are a good thing. Hope all is well with mom and baby.
@DistroJunkie this one’s a bit more complicated- they’ve got to withdraw the baby from methadone :-/
@DistroJunkie They have a protocol, & it happens a lot, so I imagine it’ll be fine, but the baby’s going to be uncomfortable for a couple weeks.
