MR2 Man finally texted me his address so I can go check out this busted ass MR2. I don't know why I'm doing this, it's a 30 minute drive, I'm cutting into BBQ time for this, and the only reason I'll get it is if he sells it to me for ~$1800 under asking price because it needs a new convertable top, wheels, and a transmission rebuild.

I could always change my mind before I go, i guess.

@hellojed What year? How many miles? The 2000-2002’s probably had the same piston ring flaw as my 02 Celica- they burn a lot of oil. I had the do an engine flush at about 180,000 but it has helped, so far. Burns a quart every 2000 miles or so.

@hellojed Juh. They went with stiffer rings in 03, but they were still the 1.4L (I think?) so only faster than a Celica because they were lighter. Honestly, my engine is pretty sluggish until about 4000 rpm. Even with a new engine if it’s a dude-bro, you’d have to figure it was driven hard. I just wanted something economical on gas with a stick shift that was more likely to spin than roll in case of unplanned emergency maneuvers. Lucked into one that was in good shape.

@Devils_Rancher @hellojed Eh, 1.8L 140 hp in my gt. GTS had more HP because of a different cam, I forget the details, but mileage is 39 city, 34 highway. Not bad for an old heap.

@Devils_Rancher this supposadly has the motor from a GTS, so its good for 190hp. but yeah. i have a feeling it was driven hard because the motor only uas 60k miles on it and the synchros are going out

@hellojed Most of them were. I looked at 3 before I bought one & they were ragged out.
