#Musicians what are your #resolutions for 2018? How do you recommit to your creativity and your art? Or kick it up a notch in performing?
@venetianblond My bands have all gone dormant. The 2 things I want most this year are to hopefully revive my improv trio because it makes me happy, & seek out a regularly gigging band that needs a bass player.
Also, I should be practicing an hour a day, which includes finishing off the Steely Dan catalog with the headphones on. Also also if I can afford it, I want to start piano lessons. I’m an ear player & it’s time to learn some theory & notation.
@Devils_Rancher Have you been able to implement your resolutions? @venetianblond
@SeventhMagpie @venetianblond I’m playing more, but really, no. As usual, new-years resolutions just set me up for failure.😕
@Devils_Rancher But then, the year has not ended yet. ;)
@SeventhMagpie true🙂. I spent an hour working on Yes songs last night - my tribute band is trying to record a proper demo & last week’s practice was a bit of a train wreck. Felt good to sit with the headphones on, & you asking actually spurred me to get up off my butt.
@Devils_Rancher That's great! Half a year ahead, lots of things can be done. Don't give up just yet. :) Finding time to practice can be tough, I know that first hand. But even 15 minutes is better than nothing. Although a whole hour is much better than 15 minutes, of course. :)
@SeventhMagpie Playing the bass also takes physical conditioning - it’s a somewhat athletic instrument, especially on these 15-minute-long songs.
@Devils_Rancher Sounds like a challenge. ;)
@SeventhMagpie Heart of the Sunrise is exhausting. We can usually only practice it maybe 3 times in an evening before my forearms give out.
@SeventhMagpie yeah, we do both - work on sections then tie it all together. We record everything just in case we get something good.
