@tcql @SuzanEraslan I'll jump in here with another "for sure". You've got a great sense for what people think is interesting. The rest is the same practice that any artist needs to work through, and you're never done with that. Write it, edit as you can, and find cool writer friends to help you focus your basics to where they need to go

@tcql No one was just good at fiction from jump. Like everything else, you have to be shit at it for a long time until you finally aren't, anymore.

Confession: I wish I were good at writing fiction. It's just a thing I wish I could do. I'd love to throw myself into the Havens shorts I posted last week. I have some ideas.

But I find myself having ideas about interesting moments or concepts, not actual _stories_ or _characters_. It's easy enough to come up with ideas for some things that characters might do, but not who they are.

@polymerwitch So many great performances in that movie, and was happy to see Janelle Monรกe do such a good job in her role. I remember loving her performances in her music videos, she kills it no matter what she does

@polymerwitch I get excited again each time someone I know sees and likes one of the movies I really loved in the last year. Hidden Figures, Fences (written and filmed in my town), I Am Not Your Negro, Get Out, so many great films recently. Go see them all!

wow for a moment i gave a fuck and it was really terrifying but it's okay I'm back to nihilism

did I buy nihilis.me? oh.

@vjgoh @Averly @CobaltVelvet I have also been seeing this. It was particularly noticeable during the caturday fun when clearly there was supposed to be a cat image but you could only see it at their instance. I had forgotten about this

C.R.E.A.M: Cats Rule Everything Around Me

ATTN TOOT.CAT: my cat cannot meow so she squeaks "boop" instead

So there are, like, video games that play with the fact that you're looking at a screen, or messing with a controller. There are movies or TV that do similar things. Not enough books play with the physical medium they're in (e.g. House of Leaves). It would be cool to have more books not just user paper and ink as an incidental delivery mechanism for ideas, but as a part of the art.
