Pondering gaps in #sciencefiction.
If you wanted an entertaining read about a future that differed from this world in one aspect, what are you having difficulty finding?
A different attitude to race? A new default on gender/sex? A specific political structure?
Not saying I'll know how to write it well, but I'd like to push my boundaries in a way that produces greater social good if I can.
@DaveHiggins no more Planet Of The Hats single-culture single-environment planets, but proper rich variation just like on earth.
@batterpunts Good thought.
Science-fiction does seem to be full of planets where there is a single global society or two competing nations, doesn't it.
@DaveHiggins when is the enterprise going to send a team down and suddenly that planet's UN has to convene to negotiate the situation for a week.
@DaveHiggins Wow, that's something. I keep thinking of Guild Wars 2, where, apart from all the cool magic and dragons, you also have the history of charr and humans who pretty much nuked each other in devastating wars and tensions are still high despite peace talks. You get an achievement for finding all separatist propaganda.
