(cherry-blossom viewing) in Japan was originally a past time associated with aristocrats and samurai. It became popular with the masses around the 17th century. Today, millions of Japanese and visitors to the country (and those aboard where Cherry-blossom trees were transplanted to) enjoy these very transient flowers, which usually last no more than a week after blooming.
