Would you choose an E-Mail-Provider, that doesn't send Messages to other Mail-Servers? Obviously not - no one would. But why do most users take walled gardens for granted in #InstantMessangers? #XMPP #IM
@stefan mostly because xmpp is generally awful and every xmpp client i have seen has been a disappointment.
walled gardens exist because they have a temporary superiority over other solutions, and just like we are seeing with mastodon when the free software becomes good enough people start to move.
@stefan yes, the desktop client is really what i miss.
@CobaltVelvet Have you ever tried Conversations (or ChatSecure, if you use iOS)? It is almost as good as WhatsApp and has a good OMEMO integration for encrypted mobile messaging. The desktop messangers are in need of improvement, I agree.
