@sim @stephanmaus @stephanmaus @CobaltVelvet @nepfag I haven't followed the thread, but IMO instances have the right to block if they want to, as long as they're open about it, their reasons/CoC/….

@nepfag @CobaltVelvet @stephanmaus @sim @href Of course. And I can only see all their arguments here on your instance. Because on octodon, some of them are blocked. Thanks for that! That's why I migrated. To be able to see different opinions.

@nepfag @CobaltVelvet @stephanmaus @sim @href @stephanmaus I didn't know about this. I will consider opening another account then. I still like octodon very much and would like to keep my main account here

@saturno @stephanmaus @href @sim @CobaltVelvet @nepfag Octodon has a very interesting local feed. But you can't follow everybody, because some instances are blocked. And you have interesting people on these instances. @CobalVelvet has no problem with blocking. That'sa pity.

@stephanmaus @href @saturno I've seen too many hateful morons and open nazis there to do that. Feel free to make a second account there, I won't judge, I'll let you compare the atmospheres and think for yourself.
Maybe the interesting people I can't seem to find should think about their instance choices too. (or is loli porn the interesting thing? sorry, that's considered illegal in most of the world, can't have that here)
Most people here like it that way.

@CobaltVelvet @saturno @href It's not about loli. It's about people like @rw He is on an instance that you've blocked.

It's not walls which will protect us from ideologies. Its our brain. If we don't train it, ideologies will win. You can't train a brain in a Walled Garden.

Why block an instance? You can protect your user by silencing instances. So, the "bad guys" won't appear in the federated timeline. But everybody could follow them. Give the power to your users!

@stephanmaus @href @saturno I'll assume you're not subject to any powerful enough hate campaign to have lived it; then trust me, being as far as possible from it is vital to many people, and those many people like it here.
Your brain will indeed keep you from bad ideology, but it's not about that; it's about keeping your sanity around thousands of hateful idiots saying shit about you and keeping them away so you can still enjoy life.
