Yes this. It's still a bit shocking to slowly realize 4300 people are now depending on me not to fuck up and I really wonder how this will end (not that I expect it to happen soon - but it will happen).
But then I couldn't stop now; the more users the more my time is worth spending on it. It's not entirely for-profit but still has to be considered.

I mean it's not a joke, installing this instance really was a random weed-based idea that I mostly forgot the day after.
Just imagine waking up "oh shit this thing is real now and has 3000 users"

I'm still not completely convinced it's a great idea or Mastodon is a great idea, or that this will end up any less painful and shitty than Twitter. But hey, it's here.

@CobaltVelvet there are some great people on this instance who I imagine will be interested to see it succeed. I expect that if you continue to be open and ask for help when it's needed, we can figure it out together

@CobaltVelvet in particular, I know a lot of folks here are from Metafilter, which turns 18 this year en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MetaFilt

@CobaltVelvet Thanks for keeping it running while we all kick the tires of this new thing.

@CobaltVelvet The name attracts. Was going to sign-up there after the marketing explosion but found aleph. ;)

@CobaltVelvet I mean, if you really don't want to take care of it you could always just give the admin access to someone on the server who wants to take care of it

@wxcafe that alone is a huge thing and I'm not good at trusting people

@CobaltVelvet Well, thanks for hosting us, mommy. And if you want some kinda help in addition to some money in Patreon, please feel free to ask.

@benhamill @CobaltVelvet Yeah agreed. There's a lot of people who would really like to see this succeed and that can't happen if you aren't supported by the community, so it's not unreasonable to expect people to back you up and be patient if things take time and effort to bed in.

@CobaltVelvet Well, despite the fact I am poor and can barely afford my stupid DSL connection and thus can't donate, I would still REALLY like to thank you for not only launching the instance, but sticking with it. I, FWIW, commend you and wish you all the sticky happy geek moments you can get.

@CobaltVelvet I ended up on your instance by random chance... I guess that's how those things happen. But for what it's worth: thank you.
