Can someone make a Twitter-bridge instance that just lets you follow anyone on Twitter from here?
@CobaltVelvet I don't know if that's what you're looking for but there's this think enabling you to retrieve your Twitter followers who are using Mastodon : https://mastodon-bridge.herokuapp.com.
@CobaltVelvet this is tempting to work on and probably something i could do eventually, but has a real risk of dragging a lot of rule-break-y stuff into the federated tl and i dont want to be the one to poop up the pool
@r4v5 true. But if it's a dedicated instance it could be easy to silence the whole domain, like it was proposed for other bots.
@CobaltVelvet true, but wouldn't that result in one person following someone who posts nsfw stuff meaning "no one on octo gets tweets"?
or am I misunderstanding "silence the whole domain" to be a thing that users can do (and I just haven't found the affordance for it in the UI)
what if everything was default-CWed? would it even still be useful then?
oh my god this character limit actually lets me finish thoughts before hitting the button it's so weird.
@CrowderSoup I meant an instance that lets you *follow* people on twitter through it, and relay tweets back to you
@CobaltVelvet ahhh, I see. I would imagine Twitter wouldn't be very happy about that if someone were to build it. Not to mention the challenges that such a venture would present.
@CobaltVelvet how do you see this? Create copies of twitter accounts and post whatever they post?
Not being able to react to a twitter post could be an issue. But I would love to see this !
@CobaltVelvet would that basically republish tweets as toots?
@ChristianD exactly that
@CobaltVelvet I think that'd definitely make the transition to Mastodon easier for those who are heavily invested in Twitter. I'm 100% in favor of this
@CobaltVelvet Might go against twitter's terms?
@CobaltVelvet there is already one you can find on Mastodon GitHub pzgz
@CobaltVelvet Problem with that is that it would be against Twitter TOS to merge Tweets with other contents.It's why Realmac/Apparent's "Socialite" app had to be discontinued.
@CobaltVelvet This, pretty this.
