it weirds me out how so many people don't see academia as an extremely exclusive world

dude even if i had wanted to for the last decade i had no chance of getting far in there. most people are in it because they had rich parents. i have never experienced 'knowledge' like this and i promise you there are other ways

but somehow it still looks like the one way? that you have to make yourself fit into if you're able enough? and then you can claim to be an authority? lol

@CobaltVelvet i think it's because instead of using money, it excludes people based on: their ability to imitate the correct arbitrary 'cultural' signifiers and interests the in-group prefers. and also money

@CobaltVelvet personally i met a lot of people who were extremely closed-minded and competitive, and the only ones who weren't were people who were trying to get outta there
