maybe mastodon's growth is just not in making users know about mastodon - the software - itself
like we try to pitch a software but what we're really giving most users are instances anyway. maybe for most people to be interested, knowing about mastodon the software should come after knowing their favorite instance

@CobaltVelvet imo it shouldn't even be about mastodon. we have a nice generic federated protocol here. not everyone's gonna want microblogging as mastodon implements it. but it's nice if you can talk to friends who are trying slightly different forms of online communication too
