interstellar is such a nice movie, so many powerful feels illustrated beautifully. each minute is subtly epic.
@Mainebot i think i identify too much to find it boring, every character is just perfect enough for me to love them
@CobaltVelvet no it's a very good film :) I can definitely see how it's trying to be a Kubrick film, but feels really front-street about some stuff. But I did like it :)
also: coop? it me murph? it me amelia? it me john brant? it me
they're all so good and beautiful and interesting
even the main antagonist is good enough to understand *why* he did what he did, as terrible as it was. it's not a shallow villain, it's a pure allegory that everyone can deeply relate to
@CobaltVelvet my only issues start towards the end of the film, around the time they encounter Matt Damon.
I was probably holding it up to the immeasurable 2001 too closely...
agree, the characters are very good. I want to be reincarnated as TARS or CASE. :)
@wohali idk i find 2001's main plot to be uh boring and artificial, like a human had to think that up to make a sf film, not watch it happen as an important pattern that would genuinely be the outcome of such adventure
@CobaltVelvet I had trouble with suspension of disbelief. My sciency-mind didn't like the "inside the singularity" stuff. And I didn't buy a lot of the plot with Damon (aside from my dislike of him as an actor in general, even prior to recent events).
I should watch it again sometime; I haven't seen it since I saw it in the theatre first-run.
@wohali oh mine loved that. i mean higher dimensions are one of the rare genuinely mysterious things i can think of. and playing with time so flawlessly is just so good i can't help but contemplate it like it's the first time i see a mobius strip
@CobaltVelvet Based on your recommendation I promise to give it another watch, then :)
the whole "the only god you need is your future if you make it possible" is possibly the coolest and most beautiful theory humans ever thought about
- 🤔 some higher being created us for some reason we can't understand
-
everything is absurd
-
we will create ourselves so we can have existed
to make any sense at all it requires giving up time being linear and that alone is beautiful
@CobaltVelvet very Tralfamadorian (SH5 version)
how often does a movie make you reconsider the nature of time? it's a great movie
@CobaltVelvet I didn't mind it. It was pretty. It was also very very long.
