here are some perks from a rented server because apparently people easily forget the state of things in the wild and why we gave that up in the first place:
- reliable power
- reliable fast internet connection that won't keep from tooting while someone dl an image
- comes with people to watch and fix your hardware quickly
- better physical security than your house, from fire risks to it being stolen
- won't draw a big target on your home connection which yknow is a critical point for many people
(i kinda wanted to start a vpn-kind service, like cloudflare but on the IP layer, with optional http proxy and generic ddos protection. i think it's a good idea, could be made as a federated service (p2p would be pointless that's just tor with less hops))
