Preparing to go online! Come see , or just hang out and talk. twitch.tv/canageek

Going in to work to do some X-Ray diffraction. If you want to see one of the ways that chemists discover what things are made of, just like science, or just want to find out what I look like and hang out, drop by twitch.tv/canageek in about 45 minutes.

@TheDiscordian @Canageek I updated the server info so it's clear we're more of an RPG-oriented Mastodon instance and less of an OSR-specific Mastodon instance.

So, are there any other Call of Cthulhu players out there? That is the game I've spent the most time running. Love the system, have a half-done RPG in my head that takes a lot of inspiration from it.

@steko (In case you didn't know, any paper funded by NSERC, the main Canadian science funding agency must eventually be open access.)

@steko That is oddly fast. o.0

Anyway, we legally have to put it up eventually, since we are funded by NSERC. So it will be in SFU's library archive whenever my boss gets around to doing the paperwork. >.>

Question:

Years ago when I fixed more computers I kept a copy of a Knoppix CD handy. It worked quite well, but seemed to be updating less and less. But I moved on from doing that and so didn't keep up.

Recently I needed to fix a computer, so I set up a XBuntu flash drive. Worked, but SUPER slow. Not snappy like Knoppix was.

So what is the current fast running, optimized live distro? Is Knoppix still the best for that? #Linux #Knoppix

What makes for a good adventure hook? Specifically, what makes for a good, concise hook/rumor?

Incidentally, guess who needs to write like 60 hooks for a set of tables?

Without images, feels more like irc

@Siphonay Looks like tail -f if you just want to see stuff added to the end

@steko Might be a while though, I know my boss is a bit slow on that. If you want an copy I can email you the preprint.

That said, I'm generally not a fan of modern narrative games: I tend to prefer my mechanics based in the physics of the world, rather then based on some loose idea of a good narrative. I've run The Pool a couple of times, and found it works well as a beer and pretzles game, but prefer GURPS, D&D, Cthulhu, Alternity, etc for serious games.

Have been invited to do the inside cover of the issue of the scientific journal my paper will be printed in. Looking for people to privately give me feedback on it, preferably with experience in science (or cover design)

@webmind @AgNO3Kate @DialMforMara Most of the city actually has a pretty good view. Will try and take some on my way in to my office. I'm WAY out in the suburbs and can still see the ocean through all of Vancouver.

@webmind @AgNO3Kate I've only been to Krakow and Prague in Europe. Mix of very nice scenery, and brutalist hellscapes.

I will say, one view of Prague looking out over the old city was probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
