Question:
What's a good amount of characters per page, say, in an average book and, how many pages would be considered enough to publish said book?
@DaveHiggins both non/fiction + international, I guess, but mainly English.
@Averly Standard page size for US novel-sized fiction is 6" x 9" whereas UK standard is 5" x 8", so it makes a difference.
Averaging a random sample of my print books, US page is approx 1600 characters and UK is approx 1250.
Page counts depend on whether you're pitching to a publisher, using a Print-on-Demand service, or commissioning a print run; and publishers will have different figures for different genres/topics.
@Averly You got to think of it more about words than pages. Most best sellers are about 80,000 words. Try not to have more that 5 characters in a scene unless you're trying to convey a feeling of confusion to the reader.

@Averly Average for fiction or non-fiction? US, UK, or European market?
