Rereading Gene Wolfe's incomparable Urth of the New Sun series (and taking notes like a demented medieval monk on bad rye grain, which seems appropriate). For me, fiction just doesn't get any richer than this.
@larrybob Absolutely! Every so often I stumble across a "Wolfe-word" in another context and it's a bit disconcerting (but also kinda great).
@ApeAngel I've never read it, but my life was changed after an in-depth reading of The Faerie Queene. Three months of study that convinced me it was a post-modern novel that was 400 years early.
@Mainebot That's great! Might have to dig up my copy from the college years and give it a more focused re-read. Thanks!
@ApeAngel So good! It's great how he didn't so much make new words, but re-used obsolete words, much as the people of Urth mine from the landfills of their past.
