I take my last toot back. That coffee is so burnt we're now waiting for skin grafts. And it can't feel anything anymore, because all the nerve endings are dead.

You know what would be cool? Mapping the similarity between instances using text analysis. Perhaps with ngrams with document frequency, inverse term frequency. Though I suspect short of joining each instance getting the data would be a pain.
Be at work for eight or so hours. Be exponentially more productive for about two to three of them immediately after coffee one. Coast for the rest of the day.
By default, we should probably assume that anything we post anywhere will be available for ever. It is 2017, after all. #endofprivacy

About risk profile:
- Mastodon is like email because you can't delete federated toots
- Mastodon is like twitter in that Google's search bots index it, unless your admins robot.txt it away
- Mastodon is like being a teenager because the people that own your instance can see all your private stuff
Have a talk with your admin about their policies.
By default, assume everyone will be able to read your toots forever.
So I heard people like mastodons.
I feel like we are living in that montage from The Social Network where everyone is happily trying facebook for the first time and trent reznor is dropping cool beats.
I think that was before the "chicken cannibalism" sequence though so everyone be safe out there.
Mastodon is giving me the same feeling of promise that diaspora did when it first came out. Looks much more likely to continue to exist with great communities too. #hopeful
For now I am just going to assume every account is a parody. No exceptions. It's the only way to be sure.
The real question is, does the band Mastodon have an account yet?
You know USA politics has been too hard to ignore when you start using 'alternative facts' as an error to return when there is no actual data available or it fails some other check.

INTRO TO FEDERATION:
1. "mastodon" is a piece of software that runs on a server. There's a lot of servers that run it & u can follow ppl on other servers.
2. When u follow someone from another server, your server receives their toots.
3. The federated TL is all public toots that the server receives, ie all of the toots from everyone that ppl on your server follow.
4. ERGO: if u want to see more toots in the fed TL, follow + get other ppl on your server to follow ppl from other servers!
The cafe is not open yet and I am out of cold brew. I am being incredibly productive right now....
The instances are an interesting idea. Curious to see how it goes. On the one hand the way that the interface works now would nudge people to align themselves by interests. On the other hand though, it could become more of a service provider relationship.
As an aside, the mobile web interface is pretty good.
